.md → .html converter

APP $ md2html PUB UPD VERIFY Standards and official sources ✓ Runs entirely in your browser. Your input is not sent to a server; all rendering takes place in this browser.

Enter Markdown (.md) to preview the result as you type, then save it as a single .html file. Search the syntax reference while you write, so you can look up what you need without memorizing it.

File import capacity: 0 / 300,000 UTF-16 code units (0%) The total after a file import may not exceed 300,000 UTF-16 code units. This limit is not enforced when typing or pasting.
As you type, the rendered result appears in RESULT below. Long documents update after you pause typing.
Note Opening an MD file from your device means this browser reads it and puts its text into the field above. Neither the file nor its contents are sent anywhere; it is not uploaded to a server. Pressing Enter once does not create a line break. Leave a blank line to start a new paragraph, or add two spaces at the end of a line to force a break within the same paragraph.

CategorySyntaxResultType
Types Common means syntax defined in CommonMark 0.31. GFM means the five extensions defined by GitHub Flavored Markdown (tables, task lists, strikethrough, bare-URL autolinks, and restrictions on certain HTML). The output may differ where these extensions are not supported. Outside the specs means syntax defined in neither specification. It is often called “GFM,” but support varies by application. Always check the destination. If you do not know what it supports, using only Common syntax is safer.

Using this tool

When it helps

Use this tool after drafting instructions or working notes in Markdown to check the headings, lists, emphasis, and links that readers will see. Put your text in INPUT — Markdown source and inspect RESULT below. Revise the heading levels and paragraph boundaries as you read the preview. When you need a document that opens in a browser, save the result as an HTML file.

For an existing draft, use Open an MD file from your device. Enable Append to existing content to add it below the current draft, or turn that option off to replace the input. The tool adds the blank lines needed to keep adjoining paragraphs apart. Your browser reads the file and its contents; the conversion does not upload them to a server.

Understanding results

RESULT is a rendered preview of the Markdown you entered. Check heading divisions, list nesting, emphasis, and links first. Search in SYNTAX — Markdown syntax reference to filter the reference table by syntax, name, or explanation. Changing that search or hiding the syntax card does not edit the draft itself. These controls help you look up a rule while you work.

The structure summary counts headings, paragraphs, list items, tables, code blocks, links, and input characters. If an expected table is missing or the list has extra items, inspect the relevant syntax and blank lines. The counts describe generated structure; they do not judge the accuracy of the content. Read the notices above RESULT as well to check the GFM setting and supported behavior.

Measured case

The measured input used 점검 as a first level heading, 굵게 as emphasized bold text, and 첫째 and 둘째 as two list items. It also included a link labeled 홈 and a table with headers 항목 and 값 and data A and 1. With GFM enabled, RESULT displayed these structures and the table with one data row.

Turning only GFM off preserved the heading, emphasis, both list items, and link. The table structure disappeared, and ordinary text containing pipe characters was displayed. The input stayed the same, while the option changed how its table syntax was interpreted.

Questions and answers

Why does pressing Enter not create a visible line break?

Within an ordinary paragraph, one press of Enter does not force a visible break. Use a blank line for a new paragraph, or two spaces at the end of the preceding line for a hard break within that paragraph. Choose the CommonMark paragraph or hard break behavior that fits the text.

Does the tool run HTML contained in the draft?

The tool displays raw HTML as text. Entering a tag does not let you add active page structure or run a script. Its display can therefore differ from a Markdown editor that allows raw HTML.

Does enabling GFM support every Markdown extension?

The option applies to extensions implemented here, including tables, task lists, and strikethrough. Footnotes are outside the CommonMark and GFM specifications and remain text in this preview. Check the Common, GFM, and Outside the specs classifications alongside support at the destination.

Why are images not displayed?

The tool shows alternative text and a notice instead of fetching external Markdown images. The new window and saved file use the same converter, so they do not form a package containing image files. Check image placement separately if your document needs it.

Further details

How it operates

The converter first treats the input as text, then identifies blocks such as headings, paragraphs, lists, quotations, and code. It interprets code, links, and emphasis within those blocks to produce HTML. Enabling GFM also applies the implemented rules for tables and task lists. Line endings and indentation establish structure, so text that looks similar in the input can produce different results.

View in a new window and Save as an HTML file build a standalone HTML document from the same draft and GFM setting. The document contains the text and basic display styles. Inside the preview, a first level heading is displayed separately from the page heading; the exported document uses the original heading level. Check the current input alongside its result before saving.

Standards and references

The Standards line links CommonMark Spec 0.31.2 for basic Markdown, the GitHub Flavored Markdown Spec for extensions, and the HTML Living Standard for output elements. Distinguish these references from the implemented coverage of this tool. Showing raw HTML as text and not fetching images are additional rules of this converter.

Constraints

After a file import, the combined input may contain at most 300,000 UTF-16 code units. Appending a file checks that total too; an excessive import is rejected instead of truncated. This limit is not enforced for typing or pasting. It counts neither bytes nor necessarily visible characters: some emoji occupy more than one code unit.

This tool does not guarantee identical output across Markdown implementations or verify the facts in a document. Long drafts may update after typing pauses, and processing time depends on the device and document structure. Check syntax support and rendering again when moving the draft to another service. Keep the original Markdown separately for further editing.
